Almost a year ago on June 5, 2019, a lightning strike ignited the Swan Lake fire on the Kenai Peninsula. The fire burned more than 167,000 acres. The remnants of that fire likely created prime habitat for morel mushrooms. And one ecologist hopes to crowdsource where hunters are finding them to understand more about the fungi. Inspector General begins investigation into alleged ethics violations, Tribal data release5/14/2020 
The U.S. Inspector General sent a letter to a New Mexico senator confirming an investigation into whether the Departments of Interior and Treasury violated ethics rules and regulations. U.S. Senator Tom Udall, a Democrat, shared the letter in an announcement Monday, May 11, welcoming the investigation. Udall serves as vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. ... The U.S. Treasury and Interior departments announced Tuesday (May 5, 2020) they would begin disbursing part of an $8 billion Tribal allocation for coronavirus relief funds. The CARES Act funding is to help Tribes with relief efforts in the fight against coronavirus. Only about 60 percent -- or $4.8 billion -- will initially be distributed based on Tribal population. The population count is based on the Indian Housing Block Grant Formula used by Housing and Urban Development. The initial disbursement would happen over several days. ... (Read more at knba.org)
